Our minister, Deon Slabbert, has been serving this congregation as well asSt. Paul's Presbyterian Church, for almost thirteen years.
Both congregations are part of ThePresbyterian Church in Canada. He was ordained in theGamtoosvallei (Gamtoos Valley) congregation of the Dutch Reformed Mission Church in South Africa. Having served this vast rural congregation in the Eastern Cape's Hankey district for eighteen years, he immigrated to Canada with his immediate family. Deon is a member of the Presbytery of Algoma and North Bay, and their representative on the Executive Committee of the Synod of Central, Northeastern Ontario and Bermuda(cnob.org). He is married to Susan, a learning specialist and teacher at Sault College, half-time music director and praise team leader at St. Paul's, and registered high school music teacher with OCT. They have three children. Deon is an active table tennis and tennis player; a member of USTA and participant in USTA men's 8.0 league and mixed doubles 8.0 tournaments. He has represented Northern Michigan 40+ teams at two USTA Michigan State Championships in 2013 and 2016. He is also a year-round-member of the George Leach Centre for Fitness and Recreation; in the summer of the Sault College Boat and Tennis Club.
